If you’re dreaming of a timeles wedding in Minnesota, the Charleston Event Center in White Bear Lake, MN is one of the most charming venues you can choose. I had the absolute honor of photographing Kayla and Jay’s wedding day, and their celebration perfectly showcased everything couples love about this historic venue: lakeside charm, classic architecture, and intimate spaces that feel warm and personal.
From the moment I arrived, I knew this wedding was about to hit different based on the story of Kayla & Jay and the setting those chose for the day.
Getting Ready at the Charleston Event Center
Kayla spent the morning in the venue’s bright bridal suite with her bridesmaids and some family members. These quiet getting-ready moments are some of my favorite to photograph because they tell the story before the ceremony even begins.
Meanwhile, Jay and his groomsmen were finishing up ties and pinning boutonnieres. The historic feel of the venue made every candid feel like a frame from an old film.
A Ceremony That Felt Intimate
One of the most beautiful features of the Charleston Event Center is backyard/courtyard area. Kayla and Jay chose an outdoor ceremony, with guests overlooking the water as the couple exchanged handwritten vows.
The breeze off the pond, the soft movement of the trees, and the way Jay looked at Kayla as she walked down the aisle created the kind of moment photographers dream of capturing. Their ceremony was personal, heartfelt, and full of emotion — the kind that fills an entire gallery with meaning.
Portraits Around White Bear Lake
We walked down toward the grounds for portraits. This area is a dream for photography — docks, water, greenery, and these little spots of perfect light around every corner.
Kayla and Jay were relaxed, laughing the whole time, and just soaking it in. Their portraits feel exactly like they are as a couple: warm, easygoing, and so connected.
A Cozy, Fun Reception
Inside, the Charleston Event Center gave off the warmest glow — candles, soft lighting, and tables full of people who clearly adore these two. Dinner turned into toasts, toasts turned into laughter, and before long the dance floor was full.
Their first dance under the lights was one of my favorite moments of the night — simple, sweet, and so them.
